
Bullhead Woman Pleads Guilty to Assault

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced Paula Iron Shield, also known as Paula Crow Ghost, age 36, of Bullhead, South Dakota, appeared before United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann on February 7, 2011, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged her with Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both; three years of supervised release; and a $100 Special Assessment. The charge relates to an assault of another woman at Bullhead in January 2009. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson. A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for May 16, 2011. The defendant was released on bond pending sentencing. |
